Uma calls herself an intuitive who works with Tarot cards. How does that differ from psychic?
Psychics sometimes give you a lot of information, some useful, some not. I am a spiritual intuitive interested in being transformational, not informational. Transformational is about manifesting real change in your life; informational feeds the mind with extraneous facts, not always useful. It is my desire to assist you in either clearing away obstacles you face within yourself, or enabling you with clarity and insight towards peaceful acceptance.
Sometimes a “psychic” claims to know the future. I don’t predict the future because I feels it is ultimately unknowable. My work is about the person or seeker acknowledging their lives now. If you wish to create a particular future, it is helpful to become aware of the “now” and acknowledge the true challenges in this moment.
Many times when a person asks about the future, it is an attempt to escape the present because it is too painful or they are impatient about the outcome.

Do the cards deal with the subconscious?
We deal at the soul level, deeper than the subconscious. I ask that the tarot cards reveal what your soul at this moment in time wishes to convey to you.
Because of “denial” or conditioning, we are sometimes only aware of the most superficial in our lives. With the assistance of reading the tarot cards and the willingness of the seeker, one has the potential of dealing with obstacles and accessing what lies at the deepest part of you where the original challenge arose and the true solution lies. This is accomplished through your desire to change, the pictures revealed within the cards, and the transformative quality of the dialogue between us.
Can this happen for everybody?
From the time we are children, we build up a lot of defenses. And the defenses can hide a lot of truth about ourselves. When someone comes for a reading, I assume they want to hear the truth and resolve difficulties. And because of many years of experience, I now trust the tarot cards to reveal what the truth is for that person in that moment. It is, however, up to you to accept it or not. If somebody is afraid or resistant, they sometimes will not acknowledge what the cards say. And even that is useful, because it reveals something. And if the cards suggest a particular solution, you still have the free will to accept or reject the advice.
Can Uma work with anybody?
Some people are more open than others at a particular time. Some of us live our lives in denial or stay unconscious. The more open you are, the more the cards can reveal. It is up to you. I however, say that I do not enter a door that is locked. I knock on the door and if it is open, I will enter with your permission.
How often does one visit Uma?
My spiritual readings are all about ever-evolving change and intuitive wisdom. Therefore, it is sometimes useful that you consult again perhaps in three to six months to see if some progress has been made.
Does change happen immediately?
Sometimes with true acknowledgment and awareness of the habituation, coupled with desire to change, you can begin to make the necessary changes. Sometimes, according to whatever the cards reveal, it is a much longer process. But each time you get an intuitive reading, there is always more awareness. That occurs because a trust develops between you and me.
How does Uma have this ability?
I had a spiritual awakening as a result of some deep psychological work at Esalen Institute in the 70’s. I thereafter moved to an ashram in Florida where I have resided for the last 30 years. See my autobiography at this site.
Why do you use the Tarot cards?
I use the tarot cards as one of my tools because it is a wonderful pictorial representation of what is happening in your life. It is effective in that I am not just seen as the “authority on high,” suggesting what to do. In fact, I ask that you shuffle the cards so that the cards’ outcome is a result of your intention, not mine. But it is an adjunct to the reading. The main tool is the trust engendered between us enabling you to drop a façade you have been carrying for a long time, negative or positive, so that the real you emerges. When this occurs, it becomes obvious what your next step in life is.
Does Uma advise people on mundane issues such as health, finances and relationship?
Ultimately, no question is mundane. I have clients who regularly ask my advice in financial, relationship and health matters. People today are much more eager to bring a spiritual perspective into their lives and that is very encouraging. We wish to lead dharmic lives.
